In September 1998, 22-year-old Samantha Hopper of Russellville, Arkansas, was pregnant and traveling with her two young daughters: 2-year-old Courtney Holt and 9-month-old Lacie-Mae Knight. They were on their way to drop Courtney off at a family member's home before Samantha headed to a concert.

They never arrived. For more than two decades, the young mother and her two babies vanished without a single trace. Decades passed with zero leads, leaving her surviving family with agonizing questions.

 Found Inside the Vehicle
The breakthrough came 23 years later in October 2021. A non-profit group of volunteer divers called Chaos Divers traveled to Russellville to assist local authorities by using advanced sonar technology to scan local waterways for cold cases.

While scanning Lake Dardanelle, just off a main highway, the team located the shape of a sunken car resting under eight feet of water.
The Extraction: Once the vehicle—a blue Ford Tempo—was safely pulled from the lake, investigators confirmed it belonged to Samantha Hopper.

The Discovery: Inside the vehicle, forensic teams recovered human remains matching the missing mother and her two daughters.
The Conclusion: The evidence suggested that on that rainy night in 1998, Samantha's car likely veered off the road and crashed into the water. Because there were no guardrails along that stretch of the highway at the time, the car sank instantly and stayed hidden from view for 23 years.

The discovery brought a somber closure to Samantha's surviving daughter, Dezarae, who was only a small child when her mother and sisters disappeared.
