The declawing of cats is now prohibited in Maryland after a recent resolution by the Maryland House. However, Maryland is not the first state to come up with these laws as New York has done it in 2019.
Cats are left unable to defend itself if they get declawed, that also hurts them, according to the supporters of the ban. Anyway, if it is necessary for a therapeutic purpose, the declawing is allowed.
Vets wouldn’t manage to declaw cats for convenience in handling, or aesthetic or cosmetic reasons. If anyone declaw any cat, they’d face for a 1st offense up to $5,000, and for a 2nd offense $10,000, beside revocation or suspension of a license.
