A disturbing sanitary scandal has unfolded in Mexico City after a taxi driver discovered what authorities later confirmed to be a human anus in his birria order—an incident that has since led to the closure of both a restaurant and an illegal cosmetic clinic operating above it.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. at "Birria y Consomé 'El Sabor del Abuelo'," a busy eatery in the Cuauhtémoc borough known for its affordable prices and generous portions. Don Chema, a 55-year-old taxi driver and regular customer, ordered his usual plate of assorted birria with broth, onions, cilantro, and lime.
Midway through his meal, Don Chema encountered a piece of meat with an unusual texture—elastic and chewy, unlike the goat meat he expected. Upon removing the morsel from his mouth and wiping away the broth, he recognized the tissue as human anatomy from his past experience working at a funeral home. He immediately vomited and alerted restaurant staff, causing a scene that drew attention from other customers and prompted someone to record the incident on their phone.
The restaurant owner, Don Braulio, attempted to discard the evidence but was stopped by Don Chema, who insisted on contacting authorities. Police and sanitary regulation officials arrived shortly after, and forensic experts later confirmed the tissue was indeed a human external anal sphincter.
Investigations revealed that an illegal cosmetic clinic called "Comprehensive Beauty Clinic 'Aphrodite'" operated on the second floor of the same building. The clinic, run by an individual posing as a doctor who was later discovered to be a failed veterinarian, performed unauthorized surgical procedures. Authorities believe biological waste from a recent hemorrhoid surgery was improperly disposed of into the regular sewer system rather than in designated hazardous waste containers.
Due to the building's deteriorating plumbing, the waste leaked through a crack in the ceiling and fell directly into the restaurant's birria pot, where it cooked alongside the meat overnight.
