Coast Guard Airmen Saved Dog That Had Fallen From 300 Foot Cliff

In an incident this week a dogs life was saved through a rescue effort, by Coast Guard airmen. The incident occurred at Ecola State Park along the Oregon coast when Leo, a 3 year canine accidentally fell off a 300 foot cliff while on a walk from his owners.

Local firefighters were already on the scene prepared to rappel down the cliff to help when the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria aircrew arrived in an MH 60 Jayhawk helicopter. With time running due to rising tides the rescue team swiftly lowered a rescue swimmer with a hoisting basket onto the beach. Successfully retrieved Leo.

A video captured the moment of Leos rescue as he was lifted into the helicopter and transported back to safety on the mainland. The mission accomplished brought relief and joy to all involved as expressed by one of the airmen heard in the footage exclaiming "Hugs around! Love it." This incident certainly marked a start, to the year.

Leo went through an experience. He managed to survive without major harm and was eventually reunited with his family.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Northwest Leos owners mentioned that he spent the night at an emergency veterinarian. They stated, "Leo has a cuts and bruises but all things considered hes doing well. We're incredibly grateful that he's alive and expected to make a recovery."

We are overjoyed that Leo is safe and sound! A heartfelt thank you goes out to these brave Coast Guard airmen who came to the rescue!
