Serenity may not look like most dogs. But she has the spirit and energy of a playful pup. She doesn’t care what the world thinks of her because she’s happy and finally getting the love she deserves.
This 4-year-old Siberian husky was a stray in San Antonio, Texas. The large tumor she had on her face prevented her from finding the loving home she deserved. So Dallas Dog Rescue Rehab Reform transported her to Dallas, Texas to give her a second chance at life.
Meet Serenity!
Right away, Serenity’s foster mom, Patti Dawson, could see that Serenity was a happy puppy. The dog came up to her to give her kisses, expecting petting in return. But unfortunately, Patti Dawson doesn’t know how long Serenity has left in this world.
The vet confirmed that Serenity’s invasive tumor has taken over the bones in her face. It invaded her nasal cavity and went over her eye sockets and skull. Fortunately, she can still see, breathe and eat.
Some dog lovers are concerned that Serenity may be in pain, but Dawson says the pup has shown no signs of discomfort so far. But she also knows that could change in the future.
“We didn’t get the news we wanted, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop loving her and giving her the life she deserves,” said Dawson.
So Ms. Dawson decided to make the rest of Serenity’s time very special. She spoiled her with delicious meals and lots of playtimes. She even had a photographer take beautiful pictures of Serenity to encourage people to donate to her care.
Living your best life
Animal photographer Renee Dowhaniuk took some great photos of Serenity. When the shelter shared them online, the puppy quickly became a star. Everyone was interested in Serenity’s story and wanted to help her in any way they could.
“I don’t believe you should take a sad picture. I believe you should take a picture of the full potential and do everything you can to capture the spirit of the animal,” Dowhaniuk said. “That girl, as soon as we lifted her out of Patti’s vehicle and set her down, that nose was working and the tail was wagging.”
Soon, donations started pouring in like crazy. The shelter received over 300 packages containing gifts for Serenity. Now, every time the puppy receives a package, she is overjoyed. She is truly spoiled for the rest of her life, as she should be
Dawson said that when Serenity tells her that her time has come, she will say goodbye. But for now, the pup will continue to live her best life in her loving foster home. If you would like to donate to help Serenity or any other dog in the shelter’s care, check out their wish list.
