This story speaks about homeless dog called Sonny, who has a genuinely loving spirit, that is hidden under his exterior that wasn't very perfect. In late March 2023, JCAS (Jackson County Animal Shelter) picked Sonny as a stray. The rescuers directly knew that his spirit and body were shattered once they met him.
The animal services director of Michigan, Lydia Sattler, said that Sonny looked broken in his eyes as if he was ready to give up. Sonny was positive for heartworm, his coat was patchy, his nails were overgrown, and his ears were previously clipped. Despite needing a long road of healing, he was just full of love.
Sonny's treatment started directly and he started improving a little every day. His defeated spirit was eventually perking up again after a while, according to his caregivers. Sonny started showing how affectionate he was as he would gently bury his head into anyone kneel down to his level.
Sattler said that he always tries to get close to anyone he meets to hug them. Sattler also said that Sonny has gotten so much better with someone to love him and daily care. You can just feel how he is grateful for it. Despite being ready for adoption, people keep passing him by.
It is like people just judge him by his appearance without knowing how loving he is. Sattler said that everyone in the shelter is sure that Sonny will find his forever home soon. She added that his looks will match his spirit very soon. Thankfully, his adoption fees have already been covered by a Good Samaritan, and his heartworm treatment will be paid by the shelter as soon as he finds a home. We hope that he will find his forever home very soon.
