The owner of a 31 year dog, in Portugal announced on Monday that the beloved pet, named Bobi has passed away. Bobi, who served as a guard dog died at a hospital over the weekend as confirmed by Leonel Costa in an interview with The Associated Press.
Bobi had been residing on a farm in the village of Conqueiros alongside Costa and four cats. Born on May 11 1992 when his owner was 8 years old Bobi lived to be than 217 years old in dog years before his passing.
This year Costa revealed in an interview with the Associated Press that Bobis secret to longevity was attributed to nourishing food, fresh air and abundant affection. "Bobi enjoyed the meals as us " mentioned Costa.
Additionally worth noting is that Bobi had never been restrained by a leash throughout his life.
Prior to Bobis reign as the worlds dog the title belonged to Bluey—an Australian cattle dog—who passed away in 1939 at the age of 29 and held onto the record for nearly a century.
On Monday officials, at Guinness World Records expressed their sadness upon hearing about Bobis demise. In their statement posted on their website they disclosed that Bobi lived for a duration of 31 years and 165 days before peacefully passing away on Saturday.
Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, which's a type of dog, from Portugal known to have a lifespan of, around 10 to 14 years.
