LA Zoo Celebrates The Birth Of the Tallest Newborn Baby Giraffe

A giraffe calf was born on April 18, in LA zoo making the history by being the tallest ever they have had as a newborn. The male calf, who has not named yet, measured 6’ 7” and weighed 172 pounds when it was born.

The calf is the 6th born to Phillip, a ten-year-old Masai giraffe dad, and the 4th mothered by Zainabu, a ten-year-old Masai giraffe mom. This species of giraffes can weigh up to 2,700 pounds and measure up to 17’ making them the tallest land mammal.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature considered the Masai giraffes, who can be found in northern Tanzania and southern Kenya, endangered. How awesome! Watch the video below.
