In an astonishing display of bravery, a two-year-old boy from Bihar’s West Champaran district fought off a venomous cobra—by biting it to death. The incident occurred on Friday in Bankatwa village when little Govinda Kumar encountered the three-foot-long snake while playing outside his home.

According to family members, Govinda first threw a brick at the cobra after spotting it. Enraged, the snake lunged at him, coiling tightly around his arm. In a desperate act of self-defense, the toddler sank his teeth into the reptile’s head, killing it instantly.
"We saw the snake wrapped around his hand and rushed to help, but before we could react, he had already bitten it,” said Govinda’s grandmother, Mateshwari Devi. The child briefly lost consciousness after the encounter and was rushed to a local clinic before being transferred to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah for further treatment.
Doctors confirmed that the cobra died from severe head and mouth injuries inflicted by Govinda’s bite. Fortunately, the toddler’s quick medical intervention prevented a fatal outcome.

"The venom had some effect, but timely treatment saved his life,” said Dr. Surab Kumar, the attending physician. "His condition is now stable, and he is under close observation.”
Medical staff initially found the story hard to believe and repeatedly verified with the family that the child had not been bitten by the snake. Govinda was given anti-allergy medication and continues to be monitored as he recovers.
The incident has left the village in awe, with many hailing the boy’s fearless survival instinct. Authorities have urged caution, reminding residents to stay vigilant against snakes, especially during monsoon season when encounters are more frequent.
