Passengers aboard a Condor Airlines flight from Corfu to Düsseldorf endured a terrifying ordeal when one of the Boeing 757's engines emitted flames mid-air, prompting an emergency landing. The incident occurred on Saturday evening shortly after the plane had reached an altitude of 36,000 feet.

According to reports, the engine experienced a disruption in its turbine airflow. The alarming sight of flames and the sound of loud booms were captured in videos, some taken by witnesses on the ground. The frightening experience led at least one passenger to send what they believed were final goodbye messages to loved ones.
A Condor spokesperson stated the incident was caused by a "parameter indication outside the normal range" due to an airflow disturbance at the rear of the engine, clarifying that the engine itself was not on fire. Following the fault message, the pilots made a precautionary decision to divert to Brindisi, Italy, where the aircraft landed safely just 40 minutes after departure.

The airline emphasized that the situation "posed no danger to the guests or crew members at any time." A replacement plane was sent to transport passengers to their original destination the following day. However, due to limited hotel availability in Brindisi, the airline could not accommodate all passengers overnight, providing them with vouchers, blankets, and access to airport shops instead. Condor has offered to reimburse passengers for any additional expenses they incurred and apologized for the inconvenience, reiterating that safety is its top priority.
The aircraft is now undergoing a full technical inspection.
